Ten years following the death of Alice Ross, a Queens grandmother who was killed in a staged an auto accident by criminals seeking to exploit the state’s no-fault insurance laws, Alice’s Bill is extremely close to finally becoming law.

Assemblymember David I. Weprin (DFresh Meadows) and David M. Schwartz, Esq., spokesperson for New Yorkers Stand Against Insurance Fraud (NYSAIF) held a press conference on Alice’s Law at City Hall Park to push for its passage by both houses and Governor Andrew Cuomo’s signature.

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (NYSTF) could significantly reduce rampant auto registration fraud in New York by cross checking their records with a simple Excel spreadsheet, New Yorkers Stand Against Auto Insurance Fraud (NYSAIF), an organization of concerned New York drivers working to end auto insurance fraud in New York, today charged.

On the very same day that eight men were arrested on Long Island for intentionally causing road accidents to scam insurance companies out of more than $1 million, “Alice’s Bill,” a measure to make staged accidents a standalone crime in New York passed the State Senate, the drivers group New Yorkers Stand Against Auto Insurance Fraud (NYSAIF) today reported.
